The effectiveness of a group counseling program based on therapeutic drama in reducing the symptoms of alexithymia among Palestinian female students

Abstract

The study aimed to explore the effectiveness of a collective counseling program based on therapeutic drama among those suffering from alexithymia. It also aimed to identify the degree of alexithymia among the participants. The study used the quasi- experimental method were the population consisted of (70) female students, from which 40 students were chosen to participate and randomly divided into an experimental group of (20) students and a control group of (20) students. The researchers conducted the Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS-20) on both groups. The findings showed that there were significant differences between the pre-test and the post-test on the experimental group, as well as the presence of significant differences between the post-test and the follow-up test, which indicated the effectiveness of the collective counseling program based on therapeutic drama in reducing the symptoms of alexithymia. The study concluded some recommendations, including conducting research on alexithymia in relation to other variable.
