The Future of Human Resources at the Digital Age: An Analytical Literature Review on the Positives and the Negatives

This study sought to anticipate the future of Human Resource Management (HRM) in light of the growing technological development. Therefore, it reviewed and diagnosed the most prominent positives and negatives in light of the digital age, which cast their shadows on the various HRM functions, and how each function could be affected positively or negatively. Accordingly, the organization takes appropriate measures to reduce the negatives and employ the positives when managing HR. This also helps in enlightening the decision-makers to avoid problems and seize the available opportunities, which makes the organization's plans more effective in general, and enhances effective planning for HRM in particular. This study provided a theoretical review of the positive and negative impact of technology on six basic HRM functions, namely: HR planning, recruitment, selection and appointment, training and development, performance evaluation, wages and compensation, and occupational health and safety, in an attempt to conclude recommendations that enhance the future of HRM, which could be employed to benefit from the opportunities available in HRM for various organizations.
